From the President:

Dear members, colleagues and friends,

I am honored and privileged to take the role of President of our AAPI Mississippi Chapter for year 2022, succeeding Dr. Udaya Shivangi.

Dr. Udaya Shivangi initiated the website for our local chapter, started our Facebook page, provided resources linking medical news from India and USA , and linked our medical community to the world. I shall do my best to continue on the course she has set.

Over the past three years our medical community has faced adversity, working tirelessly on the forefront of the pandemic. We learned how much we depend on each other, our community and network. And although Covid persists, with the current vaccines and boosters available we are in a much better position to face whatever the future may hold.

In 2022 AAPI Mississippi will once again have a number of educational, charitable and community outreach projects planned throughout the year. We have already begun, starting things off with a Summer Blood Drive which was quite successful. In October we were one of the Presenting Sponsors of the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi’s Walk for Diabetes. We also collaborated with the Georgia Association of Physicians from India to help raise money for suicide prevention. And there is more to come. Currently in the planning stages are a Valentine’s Gala in February, CME in March and a Family Picnic in April. The dates, times and locations of these events will be posted on our homepage once the details are finalized.

Continuing our focus on encouraging medical students and young physicians to be part of our organization, we will again offer free membership to all medical students. And we will vigorously support AAPI’s mission to provide Indo American physicians with a strong community support and resources to excel in their careers.

None of this would be possible without the support of our Executive Committee and our strong  team of volunteers and generous sponsors. They do a wonderful job, but they can always use help. I want to encourage everyone to get involved and be an active part of this organization.

There is no better way to network, form friendships and stay up to date on our Community!

With warm regards,
Sincerely,

Indira Veerisetty
President, AAPI Mississippi
